Saturday when Evangelina was doing what must have seemed to her to be page after page of academic work Daddy assigned to her (Chinese writing, English composition), she loudly declared to herself, "(Sigh.) I'm so tired.  I wish I had school today."

mixed up expressions

On one of my Wednesday afternoons at home while working on some schoolwork, Evangelina loudly objected, "I don't underknow this!"

Her combining words from "I don't understand this!" & "I don't know this!" reminds of what she often said 1-2years ago: "bight next to," as in "That toy was bight next to you."  It's a combination of "right next to" & "by."

Sometime last week Evangelina went upstairs to change as we were going out together.  From upstairs I heard her holler down to me, "Daddy, what are you wearing?  I wanna match!"

One Sunday when Evangelina & I went to Dr. Prodan's house to pick up Jadon & Mommy after his lesson, Evangelina said she wanted to go into the house.  She went on her own & came back out to the car with a tissue in hand, filled with chocolate-covered sunflower seeds (courtesy of a jar on Dr. Prodan's coffee table).  There also were quite a few in her mouth already, & we've been getting on her to ask us before she eats anything, so I asked her, "Did you ask Daddy if you could eat that?" 

Her quick answer was [the obvious], "No."

With a knowing face, I then asked her, "Did you ask Mommy?"

She sheepishly replied, "No.... may I have some Daddy?"

I told her, "Yes, just a little bit," & she dutifully wrapped the rest of it "for Mommy & Daddy."

A little later, she asked me, "Daddy, how did you know I didn't ask Mommy?"

I replied, "Because I'm your Daddy."

Still curious, she asked, "Did Jesus tell you?"

Smiling, I said, "Something like that."

With a tone of disappointment, she said, "Awwwww..."

a new word for the dictionary...

This evening I was (as I am sadly often telling our kids) telling Evangelina to 'hurry up' while we were trying to get out of the house to pick up Mommy & Jadon.  I became impatient after feeling I had to say it a few times, & apparently my impatience came through in my tone of voice.  Evangelina herself became flustered at my failure to recognize that she was already trying to hurry, so she shot back, "When you say 'hurry up' [like that] I can't hurry up!  Stop being so RUSHY!"

[Just looked it up on dictionary.com, & the word 'rushy' already exists in English, but it doesn't have the same meaning that Evangelina gave it.  Rushy means "full of rushes" -- the reeds that grow in watery places.]

night reader

This evening I was driving home to quickly pick up some stuff for the kids sleep preparation, & I caught Evangelina reading her Olaf (from the movie "Frozen") library book in the dark back seat of the car.  As I continued to drive, I reprimanded her for trying to read in the dark, & she responded: "Can I read the book without looking at it?"  After cracking up at such a notion, she showed me what she meant as she RECITED the book without looking at it: "This is Olaf.  He is a snowman..."

Jadon & I were in the bathroom when Evangelina climbed onto the toilet and she said, "Pooping for Mina is now available on DVD..."

And as Jadon & I started laughing, she added, ".... dot com."

"...as Jesus"

One of the wonderful things that we've liked hearing from Evangelina is "I love you as Jesus."  She knows that Jesus, as our God & King, is the strongest, wisest, highest, & most loving far above all others.  In effect, we've come to realize that what she is saying is, "I love you with the biggest love of all."

another first

On Friday (2 days ago) Evangelina did a cartwheel in front of me for the first time! (I guess she's been working on them at gymnastics!)
